I tend to agree with what she's said here. Casual sex is rampant in the lesbian community too, but it comes more in the form of serial monogamy. I found that book for sale at the library for $.25 so I bought it. I agree with some of what is said in that book. A lot of it is about taking care of yourself and honoring yourself - which many young women know nothing about as they were probably never taught. The only issue I have is with the somewhat excessive 'womb' talk. At first it was positive and refreshing. After a while it became a joke between myself and the female family members I shared the book with.

I'm guessing Ms. Badu takes what she wants from the book & teachings and leaves what she doesn't want. Sacred Woman is a great book for motherless daughters, whether the mother was dead, absent or just emotionally not present. But there are themes in the book that are indeed misogynistic and paternalizing as MENTION=65425Fabulous Foxxx/MENTION suggested.

It's an ancient belief though coming from Sudanese/Nubian regions. I think Queen Afua is polarizing @orein ishii because only bohemians, artists, etc can life the lifestyle she espouses in this book. An average woman with a 9 to 5 can't devote time to creating the time-intensive rituals to practice self-care at home. Even though she is legally married, Queen doesn't necessarily espouse marriages, she's all about 'spiritual partnerships' that's why women like Erykah (and Nubia) who are not married are still great examples of her philosophies MENTION=59076Creole Kickin/MENTION. She & Iyanla share this. I think it's damaging b/c it encourages Black women to bear children from casual sex & situationships rather than intentionally creating holisic families within 1 marriage.
But I will always respect her because I have seen women employ the celibacy ritual and watch it cleanse toxic men and illness right out of their life.
